NOMINATE OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HEALTH SCIENCES, POLICY, AND RESEARCH BY JULY 15, 2025
Ottawa, April 23 – The Health Research Foundation (HRF) of Innovative Medicines Canada is proud to announce that nominations are now open for the 2025 HRF Medal of Honour — one of the most distinguished recognitions in Canadian health research.
Awarded annually, the Medal of Honour celebrates exceptional individuals whose work has significantly improved the lives of Canadians and contributed to advancing health knowledge both nationally and globally.
“This award recognizes leaders who go above and beyond in the pursuit of better health outcomes for Canadians, and we’re excited to see the inspiring nominations that come forward this year,” said Christine Elliott, Chair of the HRF Board of Directors.
The 2025 recipient will be awarded a $20,000 donation to direct toward a Canadian, research-based academic institution of their choice. The Medal of Honour will be formally presented at the HRF Awards Reception on November 19, in Montreal.
“The Medal of Honour is more than just an award. It’s a testament to the dedication and groundbreaking innovations of remarkable individuals,” said Bettina Hamelin, President of Innovative Medicines Canada. “We look forward to celebrating the achievements of this year’s recipient at the awards reception later this year.”
Since its inception, the HRF has recognized pioneers whose research has left a lasting mark on healthcare. The very first Medal of Honour, awarded in 1945, went to Sir Alexander Fleming for his discovery of penicillin. In 1946, it was awarded to Canadian legend Dr. Charles Best, co-discoverer of insulin. In 2024, HRF’s Medal of Honour was awarded to Dr. Michael Hill, a leading figure in stroke research and treatment.
Nominations are open until July 15, 2025. To learn more about eligibility criteria and how to submit a nomination, visit www.hrf-frs.com.
